Based on Piscator's Volksbühne together with Dario Fo and Franca Rame, she created Nuova Scena: a utopian vision of self-managed popular theater. The most important production of Nuova Scena was Mistero Buffo. In perfect harmony with that complex experience, she was appointed Director of Salone Pier Lombardo in Milano (now Teatro Franco Parenti) and worked with Franco Parenti and Adree Shammah for fifteen years, directing programming and production of their theatrical activities as well as monothematic events. For more than twenty years in close artistic and life union with Valerio Festi, she is the artistic and creative director as well as the stage director of Studio Festi’s project, which have been produced in over 200 cities across the world. In 2009, she was the author and stage director of the Opening Ceremony of the 13th FINA World Championships in Rome. Both of these spectacles were viewed by a television audience of several billion people. Monica Maimone is president of the Ipazia-Arte Foundation for the environment, whose mission is encouraging artists to focus on the environment. Among the activities of the foundation is the production of "Deluge," presented in Laikipia, Kenya. Monica Maimone lives in a grand home surrounded by forest and mountains on the Swiss border. There, she works, thinks and dreams of the utopia of a theater that is lively and popular. |
